This program encourages people to observe and identify ladybirds in their own backyard. There is the potential to discover a new species or identify an introduced and harmful member of this group of insects.
This four and a half minute video outlines the classification and features of ladybirds and suggests participation in observations and documentation of ladybirds in home gardens. It is an engaging example of how classification helps to organise the diversity of species for year 7 science students and in so doing clearly addresses the understanding component of the Australian Science Curriculum.
