In this lesson, students will simulate a lottery, and perform calculations to determine the small probability of their exact numbers being drawn from a lottery. They will also consider the financial investment that would be required to guarantee a lottery win, ultimately determining that such a strategy would end up costing far more than you might win. The lesson is outlined in detail including NSW curriculum links, learning intentions, discussion points, materials required, student handouts, tables of data, student and teacher reflection points. This lesson is part of the GambleAware program from the Office of Responsible Gambling, Department of Enterprise, Investment and Trade, NSW Government.
