This resource for teachers is a series of 12 activities in three parts that can be used to support the year 7 geography unit, Place and liveability. Each part includes several detailed activities relevant to exploring different aspects of liveability. These include: investigating local qualities of liveability, making comparisons between two or more different living environments, the use of data to analyse liveability, and investigating how liveability can be enhanced through sustainable living. Most activities integrate the use of other online resources to support student learning. These resources are accessible via links from the activities to the National Digital Learning Resources Network collection.

Educational value
  • This resource is valuable for the year 7 geography unit, Place and liveability. The activities can contribute to students' learning about aspects of liveability in relation to their own living environment. These activities are relevant to multiple content descriptions for the year 7 geography unit Place and liveability, including: the factors that influence where people live, how the quality of services and facilities affects the liveability of places, the influence of social connectedness on perceptions of liveability, and strategies that enhance the sustainability of places.
  • It may also be a relevant resource for the cross-curriculum priority of sustainability in the area of geography. In particular, learning about aspects of sustainable living may contribute to students developing an understanding that a sustainable future requires the values of care, respect and responsibility for environments. Activities also support the numeracy general capability by providing opportunities for students to apply their understanding of ratios to statistics.
