Teacher guide reSolve: Geometry: Trapezium Pieces

This lesson explores different shapes that can be formed by cutting a trapezium in two with one straight line. Students are challenged to classify and name the shapes that are made, and justify their classifications based on the definitions and properties of shapes.   • This resource is extremely valuable for the year 4 mathematics content description about comparing and describing two dimensional shapes that result from combining and splitting common shapes. Students are engaged in an investigation of splitting trapeziums and describing, naming and comparing the shapes that arise.
  • The resource is also valuable for supporting the Numeracy general capability. The lesson provides multiple opportunities for students to visualise, identify and sort shapes and objects, describing their key features.
