The Australian Ballet's EduHub provides a range of resources about ballet including information on their productions. In this re-imagining of Tchaikovsky's the Nutcracker, the story of Clara is transported to 1950s Australia where the once famous Russian ballerina is reflecting on her past life and its triumphs and travails as she nears the end of her life. Clara's personal journey is intertwined with outbreak of the 1917 Russian revolution and the indelible impact it has on Clara's personal and artistic life. Graeme Murphy's imaginative retelling is enhanced with a rich mix of traditional and iconic images and design to evoke the periods and locations that shaped Clara's life. Downloadable teacher resource kits for primary and secondary classroom provide a synopsis of the story and the characters; information on the choreography; music; set, costume and lighting design; as well as additional creative response tasks for students. Additional articles are available in the EduHub.
