Educational details

Educational value
  • This is an excellent resource for studies of a burgeoning agricultural industry in 21st century Australia in the context of both strands of the year 10 economics and business curriculum. In the Knowledge and understanding strand, the second, third and fourth sections of the unit, especially the research element in the report assignment, are particularly relevant for the content description that refers to the ways businesses respond to changing economic conditions and improve productivity.
  • The report assignment is also of significant value for the Economics and business skills strand and supports almost all its content descriptions. It is especially valuable for content descriptions that refer to developing questions and hypotheses about an economic or business issue and conducting an investigation; gathering relevant and reliable data and information; analysing them to make predictions; presenting reasoned arguments and evidence-based conclusions; and reflecting on intended and unintended consequences of business decisions.
  • The third section of the unit exemplifies how the economics and business curriculum calls for student development of the numeracy general capability. The various activities in this section draw upon statistical knowledge developed in earlier years of schooling and provide a practical and engaging application of knowledge and skill in data interpretation.
