In this learning sequence, students explore feeding relationships between Antarctic animals. They investigate food chains and explore different predator-prey relationships in the food web. The activity compares the food chains of blue whales and orcas (killer whales) and considers how the changes in the amount of daylight between summer and winter in Antarctica affects the supply of krill for whales. Finally students are introduced to how scientists use satellite technology to track and collect data on penguins. Classroom Antarctica is a collection of teaching and learning activities for Years 3 to 8 that provides a range of short investigations on topics aligned to the Australian Curriculum. The activities are supported by resources sourced from the Australian Antarctic Divisions' scientific and environmental program.
