Educational value
  • Intended for mid to upper primary school students, this resource highlights the importance of agriculture in providing our food. Recognising that many primary students identify the supermarket as the major source of their food, the video explains in considerable detail how two common foods reach the supermarket. The flow chart activity provides a scaffolded opportunity to investigate this further.
  • The activity also provides an example of how agricultural knowledge and understanding can be delivered through subjects in the Australian Curriculum; in this case the design and technology curriculum in years 4 to 6. The commentary and flow chart activity are highly relevant for content descriptions in the food and fibre context of the knowledge and understanding strand about investigating food production and how and why food is produced in managed environments.
