  • A resource for Stage 3 students which takes them through the design process, requiring an exploration of a real space in their immediate learning environment and showing a real school audience how improvements could be made. It is relevant for Science and Technology and provides opportunity for hands-on, project based learning. Students are also provided the opportunities for both creativity and problem solving through interaction with current and emerging technologies and ICTs. Students participate in an open-ended investigation with three main parts: exploring and defining the task; generating and developing ideas; and, producing a solution. Completion of the activities in this resource will assist students to develop positive and informed values and attitudes towards global issues relevant to their sustainable, environmental futures. It also provides opportunities for students to engage in the design process and to discover the influences that technology, materials as well as the social and environmental factors have on the actual design process and the products which come from it. Completion of the rich and varied activities in this resource will provide significant contribution towards students attaining the general capabilities of critical and creative thinking and ethical understandings. It is particularly relevant for collaborative inquiry leading to ethical decisions. This process strengthens the skills of decision making, empathy, confidence and application. 13 videos support the implementation of the BOSTES Science and Technology syllabus with links between the syllabus and scientists and designers in the real world.
