Video Rice and aquaculture in Vietnam

This is a video about small-scale farming in Vietnam. It includes the issues surrounding food production in Vietnam and two case studies of farming families. One case study is about a family in northern Vietnam that produces rice, fruit and some dairy to meet their own survival needs. The second case study is about a family based in Hanoi that has been supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to improve farming methods and therefore increase production of rice, fruit and aquaculture beyond their immediate survival needs.

  • This is a useful resource for the Biomes and food security unit of study in the year 9 geography curriculum. It is relevant for the content description referring to the capacity the world's environments have to sustainably feed projected future population. Both case studies presented in the video are useful for this content description. They include information about current food production in Vietnam and how the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has supported families to grow their food production capacity to better their own situation and the situation of those around them.
