Educational details

Educational value
  • This is a valuable resource for the year 7 English curriculum. It is particularly relevant for the content descriptions about: how point of view is generated in visual texts; the ways that language and images are used to create character and influence emotions; and the ways that characterisation, events and settings are combined in narratives. The illustrations are useful to examine here as they help create the characters and influence emotion in the story. The questions on the final page of the story are also useful; they provide an opportunity for students to reflect on the story, the characters and the purpose.
  • It is also relevant to the Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia cross-curriculum priority, particularly the first organising idea that the peoples and countries of Asia are diverse in ethnic background, traditions, cultures, belief systems and religions. The second page of the story is useful here, providing information about Tibet and the importance of folktales in the Buddhist faith.
