GeogSpace: year 8 - exemplar

• Illustration 1: The landscape and landforms of Wilsons Promontory, Illustration 2: An urban myth, Illustration 3: Representations of landscapes in Australian art and Illustration 4: Migration within China provide a diverse range of activities and tasks related to the year 8 units of study Landforms and landscapes and Changing nations. Also included are learning experiences aligned to the Geographical Inquiry and Skills strand.
• Students are encouraged to investigate the landforms and landscapes of Wilsons Promontory, the representations of landscapes in Australian art over time, and the causes and consequences of internal migration in China. In doing so, they have the opportunity to develop a range of geographical inquiry skills.
• The four illustrations provide students with the opportunity to describe the processes responsible for the formation of specific landform features and outline interconnections within environments and between people and places and explain how they change places and environments. Students propose explanations for spatial distributions and geographical patterns and identify associations between distribution patterns. Finally, they apply geographical concepts to draw conclusions based on the analysis of the data and information collected.
• The resource supports the general capabilities of Literacy, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capability, Personal and social capability and Critical and creative thinking. The cross-curriculum priorities of Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia and Sustainability are also featured.
