Educational details

Educational value
  • This resource is very useful for the Australian Curriculum content description in year 6 science about using energy from a variety of resources to generate electricity: most of the linked fact sheets describe how a renewable energy source can be used to generate electricity. It is also useful for the content description in year 7 science about some of the Earth's resources being renewable and others non-renewable. The video presentation explains the difference between renewable and non-renewable resources.
  • The resource is relevant to the sustainability cross-curriculum priority, particularly the eighth organising idea about designing actions for sustainability. The fact sheet 'Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency' explains why clean energy is important and describes sustainable actions that individuals can undertake. The video and other fact sheets present information about sustainable energy resources.
  • The resource can contribute to students attaining the elements of the year 6 achievement standard about describing how energy can be transformed from one form to another, and the year 7 achievement standard about the way in which resources are cycled through the Earth's systems and how they can be used sustainably.
  • The video presentation is engaging and gives an overview of each clean energy resource in language that is appropriate for years 6 and 7.
