This is a website designed for both teachers and students that introduces congruence of shapes in the plane through transformations. In particular, transformations, translations, reflections in an axis and rotations of multiples of 90 degrees are used to define congruence and to identify congruent shapes. The four congruence tests for triangles are developed and utilised. In particular, quadrilaterals are investigated with the help of an understanding of congruent triangles. There are pages for both teachers and students. The student pages contain interactive questions for students to check their progress in the topic.

  • This resource is valuable for both teachers and students for an introduction to congruence. The resource is specifically designed to aid students' understanding of these aspects of the Australian Curriculum.
  • It is most useful in relation to the year 8 content descriptions in the mathematics curriculum that refer to defining congruence of plane shapes using transformations, developing the conditions for congruence of triangles and establishing properties of quadrilaterals using congruent triangles and angle properties, and solving related numerical problems using reasoning.
