This is an interactive website providing a detailed source of geographic information about the state of South Australia in text and map form, and an interactive tool enabling the user to generate resources and to apply geographic conceptual thinking. It contains a directory of maps at both state and regional levels depicting key geographic information and includes sections for Facts and figures and History, with links to many local government and government departmental websites. Users may generate customised maps within specific themes such as land use, population and biodiversity.

Educational value
  • This is a valuable resource for students to interpret and analyse geographical information, enabling them to compare and align map features, to identify patterns and to draw conclusions about spatial distributions and the associations between the characteristics of places. The graphic presentation of this data on tailored and coloured maps can support the formation of reasoned conclusions and inferences and could underpin predictions.
  • This resource is of limited use in fostering an understanding of the causes of population concentration but may serve to illustrate aspects of the spatial consequences of population concentration in a localised Australian context. The resource would require other supporting information for it to be useful comparing South Australia with the United States of America.
  • The resource can contribute to students attaining the achievement standard in year 8 Geography by enabling them to analyse geographic information from primary sources and use this data to draw conclusions about trends, change over time, spatial patterns, factors contributing to the development of urban centre, and associations arising from human activity.
