This is a rich online resource about the geography of China. It consists of four sections: a Geography section that summarises China's geographical features; a Story section that features myths about Nu Gua, the creator of humans; an Explore section that includes maps of ancient China; and a Challenge section where the user helps people and animals to find their way home to various regions in China. The resource is one of five chapters of the British Museum's Ancient China website.

Educational value
  • This is a valuable resource for the China option in the Asian world depth study in the year 7 history curriculum, particularly for the study's content description about the physical features of China and how they influenced the civilisation that developed there. All the activities reinforce student understanding of the diversity of geographical regions and features in China. The Story section indicates the importance of the Yellow River for the development of Chinese civilisation.
  • The resource may contribute to students enhancing their historical skills and attaining those elements of the year 7 history achievement standard that refer to: describing events and developments from the perspective of different people who lived at the time; identifying and selecting a range of sources; and locating, comparing and using information to answer inquiry questions.
