This resource is about the Roman emperors who greatly influenced the empire's structure and direction. It introduces six of the most important emperors: Augustus, Vespasian, Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius, Septimus Severus and Constantine. Images of the emperors link to descriptive text about their lives and pivotal aspects of their contribution to the government of the empire.

Educational value
  • The resource is useful for addressing the Australian Curriculum: History content description in Year 7 relating to the role of a significant individual in ancient Rome's history. It introduces six important emperors, gives details their early life and their period in power and describes a significant change they made, for example, Augustus transformed the republic into an empire.
  • The resource is useful for examining the historical context, early life and achievements of one of the significant emperors from ancient Rome and learning how their contemporaries perceived them
  • This resource is useful for developing the historical skills of sequencing events, developments and periods. Students construct an annotated timeline of the six emperors, recording the significant changes they made to ancient Rome. The timeline can include an image of each emperor.
  • The resource may also make a contribution to students attaining the history achievement standards in year 7 in relation to the significance of particular individuals in society, and has some relevance to the literacy capability and the critical and creative capability.
