The unit contains five focus questions that are explored through sequences of learning with student activities and assessment tasks. Teacher notes, assessment criteria and student handouts are included in the resource.

Educational value
  • This is an important resource for year 3 history. Its sequences of learning and student activities are particularly relevant for the content description about the days and weeks that are celebrated or commemorated in Australia and the importance of symbols and emblems.
  • The learning activities in the unit provide useful opportunities for year 3 students to develop and enhance their historical skills. These skills include locating relevant information from sources provided, identifying different points of view and developing historical texts.
