  • McMahon became prime minister in early 1971 and stayed in office until the end of 1972 when his government lost the election. During his tenure as prime minister, McMahon worked on such issues as withdrawing troops from Vietnam, Aboriginal land rights and delineating borders between Australia and Indonesia.
