In various places accounts have been recorded of leaves being folded into shapes to make a propeller or ‘spinner’ type of toy. The children ran with them or held them into the wind, or they were thrown into the air to drop to the ground. This is an activity using a small propeller (plastic or wood) fixed to the end of an 18-centimetre long, small-diameter dowel. Aunty Ruth Hegarty of Cherbourg recalled using cardboard and a straw to make propellers. The cardboard was decorated with coloured flowers and the players ran against the wind. This is an activity in which groups of players use propeller-type toys. The Yulunga: Traditional Indigenous Games resource was developed to provide all Australians with a greater understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture by celebrating the games that Indigenous Australians have been playing across the country for hundreds of years.
