Improving student writing outcomes through teacher induction

Abstract

Each year, a significant number of teachers in their first, second or third year of teaching start work with North Lake State College in Queensland. This is designed to help newcomers understand the strategies used across the school to maintain standards and outcomes.

The induction program forms one part of the whole-college Literacy Initiative, which provides all newcomers with mentoring, professional learning and ongoing support. The program assists them to be successful in the classroom, particularly in the teaching of literacy and writing.
