Books in Homes Primary Programme

Abstract

The Books in Homes Primary Programme aimed to develop students' love of reading and to create a legacy of books in the homes of students from schools in low socioeconomic areas. Recognising that many Australian students do not have an established home reading culture, the program provided students with nine books of their choice per year.

Data collected in formal program evaluations and testimonials confirmed the impact of this program on students' love for reading, the value they place on books and on the development of their literacy skills.
