Creating art and meaning from waste

SUBJECTS:  Arts

YEARS:  5–6, 7–8, 9–10

Welcome to Marina DeBris's exhibition, "Beach Couture: A Haute Mess".

How would you describe Marina's art? What are the ideas she communicates through her artworks? How do the processes, materials and techniques Marina works with contribute to the creation of meaning in her art?

Things to think about

  1. 1.Do you agree with Marina's belief that art is an important vehicle when it comes to raising issues? Why or why not?
  2. 2.Marina says she hopes her art delivers meaning without needing an explanation. Do you think it does?
  3. 3.Think about an artwork you're creating at the moment (or an artwork you're planning to create). Do you have a particular artistic intention or a meaning you'd like to communicate through your art?
  4. 4.How might you use materials, techniques and technologies to represent your ideas?
