Comparing fuel consumption

SUBJECTS:  Maths

YEARS:  7–8

Is it more fuel efficient to drive or fly between two places?

Watch this clip and learn how to calculate the answer.

What are the various factors that need to be taken into account?

This video was made using the American measurement of gallons per hour, American figures for the average number of passengers in a car and miles instead of kilometres. Try doing the calculations using litres per hour, the Australian figure for the average number of passengers in a car (if you can find it) and kilometres. You might need to do some research in order to do this! Does the result surprise you?
