Pet Superstars: Ferreting around

Hi, I'm Will, and these are my cheeky ferrets, Lemony and Snicket. Snicket is big and playful, whereas Lemony is very bossy. I named them after my favourite book. They're very amusing. They've got a lot of agility and endurance. They'll run around. They'll jump around. They make you laugh so much. Yeah, they've got really bad attention issues.

They're always sneaking around and hide in the trickiest places.

It's really difficult to find them once I've got them in because they're in new places every time.

In Latin, the word 'ferret' means 'thief'. They love to get into places and take things and run away with it and hide it.

Once I found some rotten meat under my bed. So now we feed them outside. I find them in my bag sometimes, in my lunchbox, eating the food I didn't eat from school. They're not allowed in the pantry, but they can open the door by themselves. They'll jump at the bin and pull stuff out and rip the bags on the bin. They'll go into our food baskets and everything. They get into some really odd places.

I remember when my eldest ferret, Max, escaped from our house. I panicked and combed the whole neighbourhood looking for him. My dad and I were about to give up when I heard a noise from down the road. We rushed there and found that Max had cornered two big bull terriers in their backyard. The dogs were terrified. Max have fluffed himself up to make him look bigger and scarier. He'd even bitten the dogs a few times. The poor things. We were relieved to find him but really embarrassed. Don't mess with Max!

They can actually get angry at soft toys. It's pretty unusual. I don't know why. Maybe they think they're real.

Walking these guys on a leash is a challenge. Although I have to do it because they love running around outside, digging in the grass and exploring new places.

WILL

The one downside to ferrets is sometimes they stink. They do have a smell that you need to get used to. It's pretty bad and it's kind of a... it's a uriney smell. I'm really interested in becoming a doctor one day. But I don't think I could ever find a way to stop them from smelling.

Today, I'm gonna give my ferret Snicket a bath.

I bathe them in a special shampoo that sometimes helps. But I can't wash them too often, as it makes their smell even worse. My ferrets always crack me up. They make the best pets because they're smart and really interesting. I love having ferrets because they're unusual and they're very playful. Yeah, they're really cheeky and sneaky and I just love ferrets now. They've got a really short lifespan so they kind of taught me to enjoy life while you have it. I'd give my ferrets the Sneakiest Award.
