Things to think about

  1. 1.Among your friends, which animal is the most common kind of pet? What is the most unusual pet you can think of? What makes it unusual? Which of these animals would make an unusual pet: snake, hermit crab, rat, stick insect? Why?
  2. 2.Look carefully at the ferrets. How would you describe a ferret? What animal do they look like? How do they move? What does the word 'ferret' mean? What is one problem with keeping ferrets as pets? What things does Will do to care for his ferrets?
  3. 3.Many people think ferrets are a type of rat. Compare a rat and a ferret. What is similar about them? What is different? Ferrets are related to weasels. Find a picture of a weasel. Can you see how they look alike?
  4. 4.Imagine that Will needs you to look after his ferrets. What questions would you ask to find out how to look after them? Write or record a message to Will to explain how you will care for his pets.
