Things to think about

  1. 1.Have you ever noticed how many creatures crawl, slither, creep or fly around gardens or your local park? Why might we find these creatures in these areas?
  2. 2.What percentage of Earth's creatures are insects? Why are gardens such important places for different animals? Nick says that the best garden has many different living things in it. What reasons does he give for this? Which animals feed on nectar? Which animals need a watery habitat to live in?
  3. 3.Think about the different habitats in a garden or park. Choose one type of habitat; for example a pond, tall trees, bushy flowering plants or a rocky outcrop. Draw the animals you expect to live there. Show why they live there. Can you find any examples that support the idea that some living things depend on each other?
  4. 4.Nick says that frog populations are decreasing. Find out more about this. Is he right? What types of frogs are usually found in your region (if any) or in a region near you? What's happened in that area? What are the threats to the frogs' survival there?
