SNOOPER SUE:
Hello, my name's Snooper Sue, and this is my colleague, Journalist Joanna.
JOURNALIST JOANNA:
Hi.
SNOOPER SUE:
We are going to be reporting from Willunga Primary School in Willunga Creek.
JOURNALIST JOANNA:
Everybody loves stories about cute, fluffy baby animals, but at this school we're all about fish and saving the environment to help make the school more sustainable.
SNOOPER SUE:
We have been reintroducing native fish and cleaning up the creek.

The fish have gone because introduced fish are reclaimed into the creek and have been eating the native fish's babies and taking over the hollows where they nest.

JOURNALIST JOANNA:
How do you involve the local community?
KAREN STROOT:
This is a community area — a lot of people come and walk here. It's part of the Willunga environment, it's part of the society — we have a lot of people that associate themselves with the creek. And it's a nice place to be, a nice place to visit.
JOURNALIST JOANNA:
What other work do you do to protect the local species?
KAREN STROOT:
Well, the Envirokids work a lot with the local area here, and by restoring habitat and looking after the environment, what we actually do is encourage other animals to come here. And what we can do by doing that, you create a better biodiversity and that also creates better ecosystems, and then you just naturally attract more animals, especially native animals, which is ideally what we want to do.
JOURNALIST JOANNA:
What sort of help do you get with this project?
KAREN STROOT:
We get a lot of help from the Natural Resource Management Board. We also get a lot of help from primary industries. And then also people like Trees For Life, and, of course, the Envirokids do a lot of work as well.
SNOOPER SUE:
That's good. Is this an ongoing project?
KAREN STROOT:
Hopefully what's going to happen is that nature will take its course, and the native fish — the Mountain Galaxias — will eventually reproduce and create their own home.
JOURNALIST JOANNA:
Did you know that goldfish is an exotic fish? It's also illegal to put a non-native fish into our waterways because they compete with the native fish for food, and sometimes they even eat them.
