Investigation number: 0243 Witness report Scene of accident: Merry River bike path Date of accident: 8 July 2005 Time of accident: 4.30 pm Name of witness: Travis Payne (cyclist) Witness account After school I was riding calmly home along the path. As I came around the bend, an old woman and her dog stopped suddenly in front of me. The dog was off its lead. As I swerved desperately to avoid the dog, I accidentally bumped into the old woman. Unfortunately, I knocked her over and fell off my bike. I was very annoyed with her, as the sign said that dogs must be kept on a lead. Fortunately my bike was not seriously damaged. Naturally, the woman apologised. Continue Instructions

I thought I was riding carefully.
I was just cruising slowly down the hill.
Then a cat suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I swerved to try to miss it, but unluckily I went up onto the footpath.
The fruit stall was right in the way and I crashed into it.
I didn't mean to cause any damage. I'm truly sorry for what happened.

The skateboarder was travelling much too fast, so when the cat ran out, she lost control and couldn't steer properly.
She swerved wildly and crashed into my stall.
I'm extremely upset about all the damaged fruit.
Then the skateboarder was rude to me for getting in her way!
Skateboarders should ride more carefully on busy streets.
