Educational value
  • This is a valuable resource for teachers and schools seeking to improve both their students' attainment of the years 3 to 6 English achievement standards in relation to reading and their National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) literacy results. It shows the efficacy of an evidence-based professional learning program that models the explicit teaching of comprehension, vocabulary and reading text fluency - key aspects of reading in the middle and upper primary years.
  • The resource is of value for teaching the English curriculum and for students' development of the literacy general capability. It provides a helpful approach to the implementation of content descriptions in the Interpreting, analysing, evaluating substrand in years 3 to 6 English. It indicates that the approach works for a range of learning area texts, not just English texts. The resource also highlights some important implications for success, including all new staff members undertaking the professional learning program and the active support of the school principal.
