This web site focusses on the events in Broome during World War II, in particular the air raids in 1942 and the aftermath. The site includes a virtual museum that includes photographs, newspaper articles, film clips and interviews for students to engage with historical information from a range of sources. The education resources that accompany the virtual museum also include a series of activities to help students use these sources to analyse the historical context and subsequent events, both locally in Broome as well as the national impact and reaction.

Educational value
  • This resouce is of considerable value due to its relevance to several content descriptions the Historical Knowledge and Understanding strand in year ten. It covers the events in Broome during World War II so it is of particular value for the Depth Study World War II (1939-45).
  • The resource is also of value for several content descriptions in the Historical Skills strand in year ten. Students have multiple opportunities to process and synthesise information from a range of sources, evaluate the reliability and usefulness of sources and identify and analyse the perspectives of people from the past, within the context of the events in Broome during World War II.
  • The activities also provide opportunities for students to develop the general capability of Critical Thinking, particularly through the historical inquiry process which requires then to question sources and interpret the past.
