Learning objects Refugees welcome here

TLF ID M021183

This resource embeds the use of online collaboration tools and 21st century learning skills in a student-centered hands-on project designed to welcome refugees into their community. The syllabus outcomes are aligned to NSW Stage 4 English, Geography or Visual Arts but this could be used with older or younger students by altering the outcomes and level of scaffolding provided. 'Refugees welcome here' presents students with the real-world challenge of creating a refugee community resource kit which they will present to their community or local refugee center. Students work collaboratively to explore the experiences and journeys of refugees and the challenges they and their new community members face as they work to integrate into their new homes. Each student works in a small group to contribute an item to the kit. Suggested items include a community blanket, a video, an infographic, a rap song or poem or a Google map to orientate people to their new location. A key aspect to this resource is that it fully integrates technology in a way that is easy for teachers and students to use even if they are at a beginner level.
