This is website that presents a collection of digital stories about the connection people have with their surroundings, in particular the land. The resource has three sections: Introductory information; Story Objects; and Story Education Resources. There are 11 Story Objects, all videos that present personal stories of people and their understanding and connection to the land. There is one Story Education Resource that links to learning activities and more digital stories about the resilience of communities when facing a crisis created by a natural disaster in Australia.

Educational value
  • This is a highly useful resource for the year 5 Geography curriculum as it relates to four content descriptions. It is particularly relevant for the content descriptions that refer to: the influences people and the land have on one another; and the impact of bushfires on environments, communities and how people respond. A number of the Story Objects are highly relevant here including: The burning question; Going going still here; Floods through fire; and My love and Home. The videos are emotional personal accounts of bushfires in the Gippsland region.
  • The resource is also relevant for the year 4 History Curriculum. In particular the content description that refers to diversity of Australia's first peoples and the long and continuous connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to Country/ Place. Two Story Objects are useful here including: Culture, respect and law; and The Land is your mother. Both of these stories are personal accounts from people with heritage from the Yorta Yorta tribe. They tell of a strong connection to the land and in particular, the place where they were born.
  • The resource is also relevant for the Rights and freedoms Depth study in the year 10 history curriculum, particularly the content description that refers to the struggle of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples for rights and freedoms before 1965. Story Objects with relevance here include: Digital Stories of the land; and The Land is your mother.
  • The resource may also be relevant for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures Cross-curriculum priority, particularly the Country/Place Organising idea. Each of the videos in the Story Object section of the resource are personal accounts of people and their connection to place or land. People with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage tell some of the stories.
