Educational value
  • This is a very useful resource for the year 1 and 2 Health and Physical Education curriculum. It is particularly relevant for the content descriptions referring to: making others feel that they are included and belong; and recognising similarities and differences in individuals and groups and exploring how these are respected. Lessons four, five, seven and eight are particularly useful as they focus on how people are different, respect of self and others, empathy and how to include others.
  • The resource is also useful for the content description referring to identifying and practising emotional responses that account for their own and other peoples feelings. Lessons one, two and four are particularly relevant here as they involve students in exploring their own emotions, other peoples emotions and considering how their own behaviour can affect others in positive and negative ways.
  • The resource is also useful for concepts in the General capabilities area of the year 1 and 2 curriculum, in particular the Personal and social capability and the Ethical understanding capability. Lessons one, two and eight provide opportunities to learn about self-awareness through exploring emotions. Lessons two and five provide opportunities to learn about social awareness by exploring the concepts of empathy and relationships. Lessons seven and eight include opportunities to learn about the concept of social management by practicing responsible decision making.
