Educational value
  • This is an excellent teacher resource for Depth Study 3: The Asian World in the Year 7 History Curriculum and is specifically relevant for a study of a significant individual — the First Emperor, Qin Shi Huang. Students develop skills in the areas of chronology, analysing and evaluating historical sources and a historiographical study of the writings and motives of Sima Qian and other ancient and modern Chinese historians. The resource culminates with its greatest strength, a mock trial of Qin Shi Huang where students evaluate the Emperor’s role in the development of Ancient China. This activity promotes higher-order thinking and an assessment of the evidence and its credibility. Completion of the activities will make a significant contribution towards students’ attaining at least three of the general capabilities. These are critical and creative thinking, intercultural understanding and information and communication technology capability. The resource is also valuable for the Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia cross-curriculum priority. It considers innovations from Ancient China that have been adopted in Australia and the rest of the world.
