Educational value
  • This is a very useful resource for the year 5 and 6 history curriculum. It is particularly relevant for the content descriptions referring to the impact of a significant development on a colony, such as the expansion of farming; and the role that a significant individual or group played in shaping a colony. The sections of the resource about the first farms and allocation of land rights are useful for the first content description. The sections of the resource about the Macarthur, Berry and Wyndhym families are useful for the second content description.
  • This is also a useful resource for the Making a better world? depth study in the year 9 history curriculum. It is relevant for the content description referring to the way of life of free settlers on the frontier in Australia between 1750 and 1918. The case studies about the first farming families are partcularly useful for this content description, providing information, photos and illustrations of life in Australia at this time.
