Learning objects e-Museum: app for Android

This Android application contains high-resolution images and descriptions of over 1,000 items from four Japanese museums: Tokyo National Museum, Kyoto National Museum, Nara National Museum and Kyusyu National Museum. The images are organised into twelve categories: Painting, Calligraphy, Sculpture, Architecture, Metalwork, Swords, Ceramics, Lacquerware, Textiles, Archaeology, Historical materials and Horyuji treasures. It is possible to zoom in on images of each item.

  • This resource would be useful for the Responding strand of the Visual Arts curriculum, particularly for content descriptions that refer to identifying and analysing a variety of works from different contexts using visual arts viewpoints.
  • This resource would also be of high value in relation to the Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia cross-curriculum priority. It provides images of artworks that reflect the organising idea of achievement and contributions of the people of Asia. By browsing the items available with this app, students can see that the arts of Asia influence aesthetic and creative pursuits within Australia, within the region and globally.
