This is a web page consisting of an overview and two illustrations of practice on the GeogSpace website, a resource for teachers. The illustrations relate to the Geographical inquiry and Skills and the Geographical Knowledge and Understanding strands of the Australian Curriculum: Geography. In Illustration 1, year 7 students represent geographical information, and interpret and analyse representations of data in the form of weather maps and climate graphs when studying atmospheric or hydrological hazards. In Illustration 2, year 8 students apply digital and spatial technologies to investigate landscapes and landforms.

Educational value
  • Illustration 1: Weather maps and climate graphs - Year 7 includes a diverse range of activities and tasks related to the year 7 unit of study Water and the world and the relevant geographical inquiry and skills strand. The activity focuses on the construction and interpretation of weather maps and climate graphs and provides students with the opportunity to represent data in appropriate forms and construct graphic representations. Students also have the opportunity to analyse geographical data and other information to formulate simple explanations for spatial patterns, trends and relationships, especially those related to atmospheric or hydrological hazards and draw conclusions based on the analysis of the data.
  • Illustration 2: Using Google Earth to investigate landscapes and landforms - Year 8 focuses on the investigation of landscapes and landforms. Students have the opportunity to analyse geographical data, apply geographical concepts and draw conclusions.
  • Illustration 1 supports the general capability of Numeracy. Illustration 2 supports the general capability of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
