Educational value
  • Illustration 1: Our place on the globe contains a set of activities that can be completed with a globe of the world and encourages students to regard the globe as a model of the earth. The activities include references to important places, spaces and shapes. Using hands-on learning to show how the globe of the world represents the earth is the basis for understanding day and night, time differences, seasons, plate tectonics, and many other highly sophisticated ideas at a later age. Mapping these connections in a methodical way assists in learning locational geography and also understanding the complexity and richness of interconnections in the world.
  • Illustration 2: Mapping world interconnections develops the concept of interconnections between students and other places in Australia and the world. Learning to recognise the shape and location of continents and oceans helps students to use atlas maps and to achieve the standards of recognising connections, the use of different scales and geographical divisions of the world. The mapping of interconnections across the world helps toward the achievement standard of collecting information and using labelled maps to sort data.
  • The resource supports the general capabilities of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capability, Intercultural understanding, and Critical and creative thinking.
