Learning objects Spinner

TLF ID M012004

This is an interactive resource that investigates experimental and theoretical probability based on a spinner. The student can select the number of segments on the spinner and simulate spinning the spinner with a mouse click. The outcome of each trial is recorded in a table along with a comparison between the cumulative experimental and theoretical probabilities of the possible outcomes.

Educational details

Educational value
  • This interactive resource is useful for the Australian Curriculum content descriptions in year 6 mathematics about conducting chance experiments using digital technologies and describing probabilities using percentages.
  • This resource can contribute to students attaining those elements of the achievement standards in year 6 about comparing observed and expected frequencies and communicating probabilities.
  • This game is easy to use and the statistics are clearly displayed. The collection of cumulative statistics illustrates the difference between experimental and theoretical probability. The Show Results Frame button displays the observed frequencies in a pie chart.
