Text Timeline of Chinese history and dynasties

This resource includes two types of timelines representing Chinese history. The first is a timeline of Chinese dynasties from 2100 BCE to the present with key events such as the deaths of important figures and the rise of Confucian thought. The second timeline is an outline of Chinese history tracing the different dynasties in chronological order with accompanying annotations. The resource also includes the words of ‘The Dynasties Song', which was written to help recall the order of the major Chinese dynasties.

Educational value
  • This resource is valuable for addressing the development of historical skills related to chronological sequencing to demonstrate the relationship between events and developments in different periods and places. Students design a timeline placing key events in sequence related to the philosopher Confucious and write a paragraph on the influence of Confucian ideas on China.
  • This resource is valuable for addressing the Australian Curriculum: History content description in year 9 related to a key feature (social, cultural, economic, political) of one Asian society (such as China, Japan, India, Dutch East Indies, India) at the start of the period. Students examine the timeline provided and the type of government of the Chinese during this period to discern patterns of change or continuity.
