TLF ID M011247

This interactive timeline is about the persecution and mass murder of the Jews, Gypsies and other people by Nazi Germany between 1933 and 1945. It includes background material and a description of how the timeline works. It shows events in the same sequence as experienced by those who lived during the twelve years of Nazi rule. These events included laws restricting the civil and personal liberties of the Jewish people, Gypsies and others who did not conform to Nazi ideas about racial and biological purity.

Educational value
  • This interactive, illustrated and annotated timeline is a useful student resource for the Australian Curriculum: History content description in year 10 relating to the Holocaust. Students collect and analyse evidence from the timeline of racial discrimination of the Jews prior to World War II that led to their increasing isolation from the rest of the German population.
  • This resource is useful for showing the sudden increase in Nazi persecution of Jews during particular years, and the events used to justify their actions. Students examine the violence against the Jews in 1938 and analyse events such as Kristallnacht.
  • This timeline is useful for the development of historical skills. Students select and use information as evidence for a research project about the persecution of the Gypsies, focusing on the years 1936 to 1939, outlining the laws and action taken against them and the reasons given for these.
