  • The resource is valuable for the variety of examples it provides of status distinction in ancient Rome, including the type of food and drink served to different people on social occasions and where a person sat in the amphitheatre.
  • Students learn about the ways in which social distinctions in Rome changed over time allowing some social mobility to take place, for example, moving from having the status of a slave to becoming a free man.
