Teacher guide TIMES Module 15: Statistics and Probability: chance, year 10 - teacher guide

TLF ID M009160

This is a 15-page guide for teachers. This module continues the development of probability. In year 10, students consider situations involving two or three stages or two or three variables. In the special case of two- or three-step chance experiments, they assign probabilities to outcomes in situations involving selections either with or without replacement. In simple everyday situations, they explore and use the language of 'if', 'given', 'of' and 'knowing that'. Students use relative frequencies to estimate probabilities of the associated conditional statements.

Educational details

Educational value
  • The modules are written for teachers. They provide the mathematical background which, together with other resources, enables teachers to plan the development of topics in their classrooms.
  • This module is related to all of the Probabiliy and Statistics modules in this series.
  • The module helps to develop awareness of common mistakes in interpreting statistical language, and leads to the introduction of the concept of independence without any formal definitions.
