Learning objects Directional design: study desk

Design a desk that is well suited for uses in a home and also has a low impact on the natural environment. Look closely at requirements in a design brief such as storage and ergonomic features. Ask a family and consultants which design factors are important. Improve the desk's appeal and usefulness by choosing options for an element such as colour, materials and finish. Minimise environmental impact by choosing elements such as surface finish, effects of manufacturing processes and features that make it easy to recycle the desk. Look at production and maintenance processes. Use client feedback to refine the design. Evaluate the desk's performance after the first week and after five years. This learning object is one in a series of five objects.
