Learning objects The foul food maker: go figure

TLF ID L215

This tutorial is suitable for use with a screen reader. It explains how the use of simple words can describe the likelihood of everyday events. How likely is an event: certain, likely, equal chance, unlikely or certainly not? Answer some questions using these words and then build your own examples. Learn how to describe probability using fractions, decimals and percentages. Explore sampling experiments and compare actual results with expected results. This learning object is one in a series of four objects.

  • Poses a series of questions (using the language of chance and probability) for students to check their understanding of the topic.
  • Challenges students to generate a list of outcomes to match given probability statements.
  • Provides a written discussion (inviting some student response) of the use of numbers in probability and a comparison between experimental and theoretical probability.
