Use this calculator to find out how well your energy intake in the form of food matches the energy required for your level of activity in a day. Experiment with adjusting your food and your level of activity and discover the effects of your intake energy being lower or higher than your energy requirements for various activity levels.

  • Students select foods that will provide the necessary energy requirements related to a particular level of activity.
  • Students identify whether the combined foods selected are lower or higher than their energy requirements.

  • Encourages students to explore the effects of gender, age, height and weight on the energy required for daily activity.
  • Provides a choice of four levels of activity: resting, lightly active, active and very active.
  • Includes the equations used to calculate the basal matabolic rate (BMR) and energy used, as well as the list of food items and their kilojoule values.
  • Provides options to print a profile or save it as a PDF.
