Yasou! Five Times Dizzy is the story of a young girl who tries to bring happiness back into her Yaya's life by giving her a goat.

Author Nadia Wheatley speaks with Tom Tilley about her memories of a Greek Australian family living in Newtown and of the years she lived in Crete as being the inspiration behind the story.

Five Times Dizzy is the story of a migrant family living in inner city Sydney. Nadia Wheatley uses Greek words throughout the book, such as 'yaya' and 'paithi mou', and even the title is a reference to a Greek folk dance.

The novel was first published in 1982 and so shows what life was like in the 1970s and early 1980s. It had a contemporary context, yet after thirty years, the book can be considered as having a historical context.

The novel helps you to think about multicultural communities. Many people in Australia live in-between two cultures and the author uses the character of Mr Willoughby to explore the themes of intolerance and prejudice.
