Students explore the latest STEM careers – the science and the scientists – through videos, research and discussion.

The STEM Careers Packs aim to make students aware of the wide variety of STEM careers. They help students understand the importance of scientific knowledge, how science influences society, and how society influences science (i.e. Science as a Human Endeavour).

During their explorations, students will appreciate how the different areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics interact and are interdependent, whilst developing STEM literacies and competencies.

In STEM Pack 4: Bringing Engineering to Life students learn broadly about engineering and that there are many types.

They will also consider and appreciate the important role of engineering today, throughout history and into the future.

This pack can be delivered alongside the Biological (Year 7 (ACSSU112) Year 8 (ACSSU149)), Chemical (Year 7 (ACSSU113) Year 8 (ACSSU225) Year 9 (ACSSU178)) , Earth and Space (Year 7 (ACSSU116)) or Physical (Year 9 (ACSSU182)) Sciences strands of the National Curriculum.

To do this, students should investigate the science behind the work of chemical and civil engineers e.g. GM (genetically modified) crops, medicines, bridges or drainage systems. (see page 4 in the pack for more details).

All tasks are mapped to Science as a Human Endeavour as well as the core capabilities.
