SUBJECTS:  English

YEARS:  F–2

Sing along with Buzz, Belle and Bop as they perform 'Twinkle, twinkle little star' in this animated music video.

Then have some fun exploring rhyme and description as you create your own verse for this classic nursery rhyme.

Things to think about

  1. 1.Think about the words of 'Twinkle, twinkle little star'. What pictures do you think you'll see in the clip? Draw some of them.
  2. 2.If you know the song, sing along with Teddy Rock. Listen for words that describe the star (words that say what it looks like). Also listen for words that say where the star is and what it does. Listen for any pairs of words that sound the same at the end, such as 'star' and are'. These are rhyming words.
  3. 3.Remember the things you saw in the clip, then draw them. Add words to describe the things you saw. Write down the words that rhyme with star, sky and night. Were there any words in the song that you did not know? See if you can find out what they mean. Were your guesses about the song right? What words in the song describe the star? Were there any pairs of words in the song that sounded the same? Were there any words in the song you didn't know? See if you can find out what they mean.
  4. 4.Make up a new verse for the song. It could be four or six lines. Listen to or sing the song again. What is the rhythm of 'Twinkle, twinkle little star'? Try to keep the same rhythm. Be sure to rhyme the last word of every two lines.
